"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies" (Ps. 23:5).

The Psalmist has such an awareness of his dependence on his Good Shepherd. Through his life experiences he had learned that there is no want to the one who trusts his life to the Good Shepherd and walks close to Him.

As our host, the Good Shepherd invites us to His table which He has provided and placed before us. He has taken utmost care to prepare His very best, amply providing our every need. "And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:19).

The pastures where the sheep grazed in the Holy Land often had poisonous plants and dangerous animals. The shepherds would go before the sheep, digging out the dangerous plants and driving away the animals that would harm the sheep. The Good Shepherd prepares a table for us, with Himself as the Host. Because His meals are well-balanced, we are always satisfied at His table. "And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger; he that believes on me shall never thirst" (John 6:35). What a wonderful thought that we are in His special care and that He is serving us daily.

We may be surrounded by enemies of doubt, fear, envy, self-pity, and rebellion. But in the midst of them our loving host has prepared our daily provisions. At His table there is a never-ending supply. His provisions never fail. "There is no want in them that fear him....they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing" (Ps. 34:9-10).

God's banqueting table is set before us. It is a table for our spiritual nourishment and refreshment. The food is not prepared ahead of time so it becomes stale, but just when needed so it is fresh. All we need is provided for us in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ. This table is placed before us for our benefit. If we are to be nourished by God and his Son, we must partake of them. Are we getting nourished?

Have a great Wednesday....Shine for the mark Phil. 4:11
