A New Abundant Life

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come" (2Cor. 5:17).

As the old year has drawn to a close, there is retrospection in our thinking. We recall our failures and mistakes of the past year. We then make a set of what we call resolutions for the year before us. We usually start out with a great determination to keep them, but before long we find ourselves lagging behind. It is not "turning over a new leaf" we need, but "living a new life"; not a "new year" but a "new us.

Paul wrote of this new life we have in Christ. ---the life that makes us a new person. When someone becomes a Christian, "he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come." We can become "new creatures" in Christ. Even if we have been Christians for a time, we can "re-invite' Christ into our lives.

This new life in Christ does more than get us ready for heaven. It gives a new power for daily living. With this relationship comes a new nature, new standards, new desires, new attitudes, new motives, new goals, new actions, and reactions. He doesn't try to improve our former life. He doesn't make us a better person but a different one. The Holy Spirit makes us a new person, producing the life of Jesus Christ within.

In Christ, all areas of our lives are strengthened. Is worry a problem? Are we by nature, "worriers?" Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:27). His new nature can give us peace in every area of our lives as we yield to Him. In Christ we have the resourses to live an abundant life each day of this next year.

Have a wonderful beginning to your week. Let your light shine for Him....Love mark Phil. 4:11
