Magnified In Christ

"According to my earnest expectation and hope, but that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death" (Phil. 4;11).

In 1668, Antony van Leeuwenhoek, son of a Dutch basket maker started to grind lenses. Before he was through, he had made over 500 crude microscopes, 10 of which are still in existence. Teaching about him in biology classes, the thing that always stuck out in my mind was the first time he saw microorganisms swimming around under magnification. he called them, "Wee Beasties." It is interesting that when one looks into a microscope, his whole field of vision is filled with something that is not otherwise seen.

Paul desired that Christ would be "magnified" in him. Magnified so much that He would fill his life; that everywhere and always, Christ would have the preeminence. The Living Bible translates Phil. 1:20 this way: "But I will always be ready to speak out boldly for Christ while I am going through these trials here, just as I have in the past; whether I live or whether I must die."

We might say, "I want Christ to be magnified in my life. I want Him to fill my life that He may be seen by others. But it is really not possible due to my circumstances. Maybe if I lived or worked somewhere else. Maybe if I had a different family situation, then I could magnify Him."

When Paul wrote this letter, he was in jail. Not exactly the most conducive circumstance to magnify the Lord. Even though he was in prison, he didn't complain or pray for release. Instead he rejoiced in the opportunity to magnify Christ THERE. Paul had this wonderful single-purposed devotion to Jesus Christ. He put his life in the hands of the Lord. He could say with conviction, "If Christ will be magnified by my living them I want to live. If He will be magnified more by my death, I am ready to die." He had an aim worth living and dying for.

"O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together" (Ps. 34:3).

Have a wonderful day....Lets make the invisible Christ visible to all around us....Love mark Phil. 4:11
