Passing By

"She said to her husband, "I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God" " (2 Kings 4:9).

This woman invited Elisha the prophet to eat with her and her husband. We are told that she was a "well-to-do woman of Shunem. Elisha passed there often. So often that she and her husband had a special room prepared on their roof in which he could stay whenever he came by.

We do not know the woman's name, but know something of her character. She was a discerning person, for she recognized a spiritual depth in Elisha's life. She didn't call him a successful man, a great man, or a brilliant man, but a holy man. It was not so much what he did or said that impressed her. What impressed her was what she saw in his life. What she said to her husband was, "I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God." A holy man isn't always always successful, great, or brilliant as the world may view it. A holy man is not pious, trying to impress people with his spirituality, but is genuine and real, one in whom people see the wonderful life of our Lord.

Elisha ministered to people wherever he went. His holy walk was a continuous one. He didn't just minister when he "felt like it," but continually.

While Jesus lived on the earth He also passed along the roads through the villages where people were. One day a blind beggar was sitting along the side of the road and heard a commotion. He asked what all the excitement was and was told, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by" (Luke 18:37). Jesus is still "passing by" in our lives today. What do people say when we pass by? Is there something in our lives that reminds them of the Lord Jesus? Does our conversation and conduct reflect His presence in us?

People want to become Christians when they see something in the lives of people that is different. Different than people of the world. Maybe all that some people know about God is what they are seeing in OUR LIVES. Are they seeing the Lord Jesus in them?

Have a wonderful Monday. Let your light shine for Him. Love mark Phil. 4:11
