Safety In The Lord

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and fight our battles. And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said" (2 Chron 32:7-8).

The Assyrians were one of the fiercest nations of their day. Their armies were legendary and the first to use iron in their spears and weaponry. Sennacherib, their king, was waging war on Judah. The final attack was to be on Jerusalem. Hezekiah, King of Judah, pulled no punches as to the power of their army, yet he recognized that their strength was only human. The army of Judah did not have the strength of the Assyrians, but their trust was in the Lord. "With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and fight our battles."

Back in 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat faced a powerful enemy too. Knowing that his army lacked the strength to overcome their formidable enemy, he went to his certain source of help....God. He prayed in vs 12, and 15, "For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you." God answered, "Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's"

We, too, face a powerful foe. His attacks often come in subtle forms. It may be temptation or a feeling of defeat. Discouragement may overwhelm us. We may find ourselves in a place of danger. We may face seemingly insurmountable problems. We have no power in ourselves to fight such a powerful enemy. We may not know what to do. BUT THE BATTLE IS NOT OURS! With us is the LORD OUR GOD. to fight it for us. As we keep our eyes upon Him we need not fear, for it not too much for Him. Victory is not dependent on us, but on our God.

More important than where we are or what we have is who is with us. It has been said, "Safety is not the absence of danger, but the presence of the Lord."

Have a great day....Make a difference....Love mark phil. 4:11
