The Joy Of Jesus

"These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full." (John 15:11).

As we look at the faces of the people that we come in contact with day to day, how many of them reflect joy? Sad to say many do not. In many ways it is understandable, for conditions in today's world are more likely to produce fear rather than joy. People are seeking joy but in the wrong places. They are looking for it in outward circumstances, but to their chagrin, they do not find it.

In the 15th chapter of John, Jesus shared some important things with His disciples. With His crucifiction not too far in His future, He shared words of encouragement. He knew that life would not be easy for them; some would suffer great persecution. But He wanted them to know that even in times of trouble, they could have lives filled with joy. The joy Jesus was talking about springs from a heart untouched by outer circumstance. He had been talking with His disciples about the abiding life. "Abide in me and I in you" (John 15:4). He used here the vine and branches as an illustration. He told them these things that they might know that their was a relationship that would give them joy in the time of trouble.

This same joy is possible for us today. From a vital union with Jesus comes real joy for our lives....His joy....for He is the source. "that My joy may remain in you." It is a joy produced in us by Jesus Christ. We may try to find joy in the things we do or what we have, but REAL JOY comes from an abiding in the Lord. Outward joy is not a permanent joy, but the joy of the Lord is! "That your joy may be made FULL." When our joy is in Him, no one can take it from us.

He didn't promise a little joy, or just enough joy, but that "your joy might be full." It is a full cup that overflows with joy. When our lives are filled with His joy, it will overflow into the lives of others. Maybe through the overflowing of our joy into others, as we look into their faces, our joy, coming from Him, may be rellected in them.

Have a wonderful day....Let that light shine with your joy....Love mark Phil. 4:11
