Our BIG God

"Now when Abram was ninety nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said to him, I am God Almighty" (Gen. 17:1).

In the popular Veggie Tales Series, one of the catchy tunes says, "God is bigger than the Boogieman, He's bigger than Godzilla, or the monsters on TV....He's big enough for you and me." What exactly is our concept of God? When we think of Him, what comes to mind? In 1952, J.B. Phillips wrote a book entitled, YOUR GOD IS TOO SMALL. How big IS our God? Is He too small?

God wanted to enlarge Abram's concept of Himself, so from time to time He revealed something new about Himself to him. In the above scripture He called Himself "the Almighty God." The Hebrew word for Almighty God is El Shaddai, the all-sufficient one. What God was saying to Abram was that He was his El Shaddai; the God who was sufficient for all his needs. A BIG God.

When we come to know God on a personal basis through Jesus Christ, He becomes our El Shaddai, our God who is sufficient for all of our needs. Sometimes it takes a humbling experience or some personal problem to to find our way to our El Shaddai, the Lord Jesus Christ. To realize that Jesus is sufficient for us through the tough times and that He and He alone is enough....HE is all I need.....He IS Big enough.

Have you wondered why a particular need has not been met? Why a fervent prayer has not been answered? God hasn't forgotten us. Maybe He is waiting to reveal some deeper, bigger aspect of His character to us. That He wants us to know Him in a more intimate way. He wants us to experience that he is our El Shaddai...the all-sufficient one....All we need today and tomorrow. It has been said that when we have nothing left but God, that we become aware that God is enough...Big enough...

Have a wonderful day...Make a difference....Love mark Phil. 4:11
