God's Standard For Us

"Now when Abram was ninety nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am God Almighty; Walk before me and be blameless" " (Gen. 17:1).

If the scripture sounds familiar, it is the same one I used yesterday, with the ending. When God made this appearance before Abram saying, "I am God Almighty," He then gave him some directives for his life; A standard for his walk. "Walk before me and be blameless." If we walk before God we are constantly aware of His presence. To be blameless is to have an undivided heart, a loyal heart. "For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those who are fully committed to Him" (2 Chron. 16:9).

Abram could trust in the sureness of the Lord's promises. God reassured him that He would keep His promise and give them a son. Of his wife Sarah He said, "I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her" (Gen. 17:16). Abram, now called Abraham by God, had confidence in God's promise because he had confidence in the One who gave the promises. Thats the way it is with promises, isn't it?

Abraham had to learn to surrender to the desires of God. Instead of waiting for God's promise to be fulfilled, he and Sarah had devised their own way of having a son. In v. 18, Abraham asked God to bless Ishmael, but God could not give His blessing to their plans.

There are things we can learn from Abraham's experience. God has a standard for our walk today. "That you may may live a life worthy of the Lord" (Col. 1:10). The power for our walk is not in ourselves but in Jesus Christ. "Just as you have received Christ Jesus, continue to walk in Him" (Col. 2:6). We, too have the assurance of His promise. "Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave" (1 Kings 8:56).

We need to surrender our desires, our ambitions, our lives completely to Him. His will must be our will so that we can say as He did, "Not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42).

May we have the blessings available to us by being in His will.

Have a wonderful day...Let your light shine....Love mark Phil. 4:11
