Real Treaure

"Do not store up for yourselves treasure on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal,. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. (Matt. 6: 19-20).

The dictionary defines treasure as wealth or riches that are stored up; valuable things. We are very careful to store up things that are valuable to us. We have a safety deposit box in a bank in which we keep important documents.

Jesus warned us against storing up earthly treasures because he knew that it is a basic instinct of humans to accululate possessions. Whether those "treasures" are possessions, pleasures,or people, they are but temporary and can quickly vanish. Only treasures stored in heaven cannot be taken from us.

There is a story of a wealthy Christian woman, who spent her time on and wealth on herself. One night she dreamed of being in heaven. Seeing a large expensive home, she was told that it belonged to one of her servants. To her surprise, her home was just a small cottage. When she questioned this seeming mistake, an angel replied, "We did the best with the materials you sent up to us." Is it wrong to have treasured possessions? Of course not. Our families, homes, cars, positions, time, and talents are all important to us. The problem lies not in the treasures, but in where we are storing them, on earth or in heaven. Jesus gave one more reason why not to store up treasures here on earth in verse 21. "For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also."

Are we laying up treasures in heaven which cannot be taken away? It is only possible for God to store up for us that we have deposited with Him in our earthly lives. The view we must take as we live each day is the one with eternity in sight.

Have a great weekend.. Let your light shine for Him...Love mark Phil. 4:11
