The Wonders Of The World - Part 3

"Remember your creator in the days of your youth.....Before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain" (Ecc. 12: 1,3).

I am mesmerized by the wonder and order of the universe. In 1504, on his 4th voyage, Columbus's boats were being eaten by worms and in danger of sinking. He landed in the northern part of Jamaica, where he looked for help. At first the inhabitants were helpful, but grew tired of being mistreated and began to become hostile. Columbus, in dire circumstance, went back to his ship and began to read from Ephermides and noted the prediction of a total lunar eclipse on February 29, 1504. Columbus then went back to the natives and through an interpreter told them if they did not cooperate that he would "take the moon" from them the next night. Amazingly, the prediction proved correct. Columbus went back to his quarters. Using an hourglass he timed the length of the eclipse and came back to them as it had reached its totality. He told them he would now "take it away." The natives supplied Columbus and his crew with food and did all they could to please them.

It amazes me that even further back in time, that through math and rather crude astronomy, such events could be predicted with accuracy. The wonderful order of the creation is so splendid. It gives us faith that the Lord is in charge and has always been. As we read His words through the Bible we can be confident that God is the master of this world and all that is in it. "The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, the world and all who live in it" (Psa. 24:1). The Lord who made all that we have and is over all is to be praised. "Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights above. Praise him all his angels, praise him all his heavenly hosts. Praise him, sun and moon, praise him all you shining stars. (Psa. 146:1-2).

I hope it is clear enough where yor are to see the lunar eclipse tonight, and in it give praise to the Lord, the Author and Creator of all...

Have a great day...Let your light shine for Him....Love mark Phil. 4:11
