The Power To Quiet The Storms

"Lord, if its you," Peter replies, tell me to come to you on the water." "Come," he said (Matt. 14:28-29).

This is such a famous story in our Bibles. When Jesus appeared to the disciples in the darkest hour of the night, encouraging them with His presence, Peter got courage. When he recognized Jesus, fear diminished and faith grew. He said, "Lord, if its you, tell me to come to you on the water." Jesus reply was simply, "Come."

As a person who spends alot of time on the water, I sometimes picture myself in Peter's place. I wonder if I would be that confident? Maybe a, "Just a minute, let me think about this" or "Hold on, let me build up a little courage first." But Peter didn't waver a bit. Being confident in his Lord, that He had the power to make it possible, Peter ventured forth with his eyes firmly affixed on Jesus. He stepped out of the boat in complete faith, trust and obedience to Jesus command. He did what in human terms was completely impossible. He did it through the power of Christ.

Peter however turned back to his own humanity, as many of us do so often in our storms. He looked at the waves, felt the wind, and forgot Jesus. He was now in danger. Not because he left the boat. Not because of the wind and waves. He was in danger because his faith wavered. Confidence and courage was replaced by fear and doubt. Time for the quick prayer...."Lord save me." Those three words were sufficient to bring help from his Savior. Just one short cry and Jesus was there, reaching out His hand saying, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?"

The choice becomes ours. When the winds and waves of life rage about us, and things seem to be the darkest, we can either look at the storm of our circumstances and sink , or look to Him and rise above them. He indeed has the power to calm the the storms of our lives. But He can go beyond and quiet the storms of our hearts...Bringing calmness and quietness. Jesus is not a security against storms, but a security in them. An easy voyage is not His promise, a safe and easy landing is.

Have a wonderful day...Make a difference.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
