Jesus the Way

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed

us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ" (Eph.1:3).

I am beginning a series of lessons here at Northfield entitled, "Jesus the Way." What exactly does that mean? The way to what? Well, as the scripture indicates, Jesus is the way to EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING. If there is a way to Him, how does one go about finding it? To be sure that we have truly found Jesus, The Way, we must begin with the only reliable source of information about Him: THE BIBLE!

Surprisingly, a good place to start is in the Old Testament. We can see Jesus through the eyes of Old Testament prophecy. In Isaiah we find; His birth (7:14), the suffering Jesus (53:4-6), and His sovereignty (9:6-7). It is estimated that there are over 300 prophesies about Jesus in the O.T!

An even better place to find Him is in the New Testament Gospels. In Matthew, Mark, Luke and John we find Jesus through the eyes of fulfillment, as they document how He fulfilled prophecy. In them is revealed what He actually taught. The real Jesus taught self-denial. (Lk.9:23-25). The real Jesus expected His disciples to, "observe all things" (Mt. 28:18-20).

The Book of Acts shows the fulfillment of Jesus' promise to send the Holy Spirit Who would guide them into truth (2:4). It reveals things taught during Jesus ministry not recorded in any of the four Gospels (20:35). We can find Jesus in the Epistles. The words of the apostles were to be received as if they were from Jesus Himself. The Holy Spirit did in fact guide the apostles into all the truth (John 16:13).

In the gospels, the book of Acts and the Epistles (including Revelation), we find the teachings of Jesus and about Jesus COMPLETELY, FULLY, and FINALLY revealed! We have all that is needed to live Godly lives (2 Pet. 1:2-3). We have all that is needed to be complete (2Tim 3:16-17)

Finally it must be emphasized that we can only find Jesus when we truly obey Him. We must abide in His Word if we are to be His disciples, and He abides in us as we keep His commandments. This is how we TRULY know Him as THE WAY. Those that have found Him have the assurance of, "I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." Jesus is our WAY to everything that is truly good!

Have a great weekend and a blessed worship on the Lord's day. Let your light shine for Him.... Love mark Phil. 4;11
