Seeking His Plans

"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart" (Jer.29:13)

The children of Israel are in captivity in Babylon. The Lord tells them to be careful who they listen to. He says that the exile will last 70 years.

"When the seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place"(V 10). His plans for them were not complete. "For I know the plans I have for you"(v 11). He knew the plans and what they entailed. "Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future" (11).

Just as it is with us today, it was for them. We are a people who want things instantly. I think people have always been that way. To them, the captivity was a complete disaster, but God knew it was for their best interests. They were looking to the "right now;" God was looking at the ultimate.

We may be in the same situation as the Israelites, in some sort of captivity. From our viewpoint it may seem to be a complete disaster. God however, plans for the future and our ultimate welfare. He says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with ALL YOUR HEART! We may be seeking the answer to our problems in the wrong place and in the wrong way. Instead of placing our focus on the problem, we should focus on Him.

God may use the "Babylonians" in our lives to help us. He may use people around us or some experience to lead us in the right direction, but ultimately we are to FIRST seek Him. When we seek and find Him, we find our answers. He is the "satisfier." Why should we settle for less? He has made the promise! He has promised that if we seek Him, we shall find Him, if we seek with all our heart.

If we settle for less, we will get less. Don't stop short of Him. David in Psalm 29:4 wrote, "One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord, and seek him in his temple." A true seeking heart will not be disappointed by God; they will find Him.
