Our Risen Jesus

"The angel said to the woman, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay" (Matt. 28:5-6).

The season is upon us that Christians of the world think of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Jesus resurrection is the foundation of our hope for eternal life. Easter, (the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox) is a wonderful reality that should be in our hearts not just on this day but every day.

Jesus' disciples were very discouraged after the crucification. They, as many, were in expectation of an earthly kingdom. Instead they got the crucification. Their personal tragedy would soon be turned into triumph. As one last act of love and devotion to Jesus, Mary and Mary Magdalene were on their way to the tomb to annoint His body with sweet spices. Their hearts were also heavy as they had just witnessed the crucifiction. Imagine their surprise to find the heavy stone had been rolled away from the tomb and an angel saying, "Don't be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay."

If we recieved news that a loved one who we thought was dead was alive we would also be overjoyed. These friends of Jesus were filled with joy at the news, and ran to tell the disciples.

The message the angel proclaimed was one of great victory----the victory of life over death. The first thing it did was dispel fear..."Don't be afraid." Next it brought hope----"He is risen." Finally it brings reassurance----"Just as He said." This gives us the confidence that His Word is true.

Because He arose from the dead, we can have peace, victory, and hope. It characterizes our Christian faith. "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive forever!" (Rev. 1:18)

We can praise our God today for the personal knowledge that He is not only the living savior and Lord of the world, but He can be ours personally. This reality gives us the promise of life throughout eternity with Him. "Because I live, you also will live" (John 14:19)

Have a great weekend and a meaningful worship on Sunday...Make a difference..Love mark Phil. 4:11
