A Bridge Over Troubled Waters

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me" (John 14:1). The backdrop to this scripture is that Jesus had just told His disciples that He would be betrayed by one of them. He then told then that He would not be with them for much longer, and when Peter said that he would lay down his life for Him, his three denials were predicted. You can just imagine how troubled they were.

Our world is jam packed with troubled hearts. There is a war going on, the economy is uncertain, and the price of fuel is at it highest. This is not to mention the personal problems people suffer every day. At a time when He was facing a horrible death, Jesus took the time to comfort those closest to Him, His disciples. He knew what they would be facing after His death. Trouble...persecution...even death. His words of encouragement were; "Do not let your hearts be troubled." Our Lord then gave them the secret to an untroubled heart. "Trust in God; also trust in me."

The answer for their troubles was a trust in God and in Jesus Christ. It is also the answer for our troubles....If we read on in John 14, He give us more. He tells us that in His Father's House are many rooms and that He is preparing one for us.(v2-3)..He says that HE is the way and the truth and the life (V 6). We can have the same untroubled hearts in that knowledge.

This message has been the source of comfort through the ages. Jesus did not say that we would be free from troubles, but we must not let them disturb our hearts. HE IS the bridge over troubled waters. Jesus simply says, Do not LET (allow) your hearts be troubled.

Later in the chapter (V 27), Jesus gave us this; "Peace I leave you with; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Lets turn our troubled hearts into trustful hearts. Lets let Jesus be our bridge over troubled waters.

Have a wonderful day..Fill it with service to the Lord....Love mark phil. 4:11
