Real Rest

"Come unto me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matt.11:28).

After a hard day or a strenuous workout, there's nothing like a good period of relaxing....A rest...Just kicking back and allowing our bodies and minds to unwind. In the world today, many are in need of rest. Not the kind of rest after a workout, but the seeking of spiritual peace when we might be in turmoil. A rest from tension, fear anxiety, or frustration. I suspect that it has always been this way. The people of Jesus' day did not crowd around Him because they were at peace with themselves, but because they needed something that they did not have....A REAL REST!

Jesus was aware that people were burdened with loads of care when He uttered these words. "Come unto me, all of you who are weary and burdened." He went on to say that in me "you will find rest for your souls" (v 29).

"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd" (Matt. 9:36). Because he "felt their pain," he said, "come unto me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." I will relieve and refresh your souls. This invitation was not just for them but for us today. Notice in the scripture that there is something we must do...We MUST COME...The rest we find is not in the coming, but in the one we come to. He will give us the rest we so badly need. Coming to Him shows our trust in Him. Rest comes as we give our burdens to Him...He is our "rest-giver." It is rest of the soul.

The world of today is filled with those who are "weary and burdened." Sometimes they hide their burdens behind a smile..Jesus is waiting for us saying, "Come to me. I want YOU." Our job is to come, His is to give the rest. He turns none away..

Have a great week....Let your light shine...Love mark Phil. 4:11
