Singing In The Rain

"These things have come so that your faith----of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire----may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed (1 Pet. 1:7).

In Acts, the sixteenth chapter, Paul and Silas have been thrown into jail in Philippi. Before being jailed they were stripped, beaten, and severely flogged. Yet, "About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God" (v 25). They had learned the secret of praising God even when tested and tried almost beyond measure.

In today's scripture, Peter uses the concept of purifying gold to the purification of our lives. Ancient goldsmiths put the gold ore into a vat and preceded to heat it seven times hotter than usual to remove the impurities. The refiner stood by the vat of gold with his eyes fixed on the molten metal, drawing off those impurities. I am told that when he could see his face reflected in the gold, the fire was turned off.

Jesus is our "master refiner." His desire is to bring out HIS BEAUTY in us. Some times the fire of trials are used in the refining process. Impurities must be separated from our lives. They may be pride, jealousy, self-pity, or anything else that keeps us from reflecting His beauty. As the heat is turned on, He keeps a watchful eye on us until the image of Jesus appears and is formed in our lives.

As did Paul and Silas, we too can sing in our fire of trials, remembering that they are to perfect the beauty of Jesus in us. Paul and Silas sang because of their great faith and so can we. Instead of focusing on the trials, we must concentrate and look to the Lord. Untried faith may be true faith, but GREAT FAITH grows under trials.

Why? "So that your faith---of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire----MAY PROVE TO BE GENUINE and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus is revealed." There is no faith so precious than that which wins despite adversity....A faith in our Lord that allows us to sing a song of triumph...Singing in the rain....

Have a wonderful day...Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in us....Love mark Phil. 4:11
