The Way To Fruitfulness

"I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds" (John 12:24).

I guess my father-in law, the farmer, ought to write the first part of this devo. He does grow wheat out there in KS, and I know that he has tried different varieties over the many years that he has farmed. There is one thing that is a constant. In order for the wheat to grow, the seed must be put into the ground. Only then will there be a possibility of a harvest.

Our scripture today reveals to us the law of "spiritual harvest." When a seed is planted in the ground, it dies. Yet from the seed springs forth new life. From the one seed comes not just one more seed but many fold.

Jesus was speaking to his disciples here about his forthcoming death and resurrection. He told them that through his death (One), that many new kernels(a harvest) would take place. He used this illustration in referring to His own death and resurrection. As the kernel of wheat must die for new life to come forth, He died that He might live again in resurrection life and impart this life to His redeemed people. "For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life' (Rom 5:10)!

And so the principle works in our live. To be fruitful means that we must "die to self." Only when we are willing to die to self....to our own ambitions, desires, and thoughts, can we hope to reach others with the good news of Jesus Christ. That our lives would produce an abundant spiritual harvest for the glory of the Lord. Part of that is engendering the fruits of the spirit described in Gal. 5:22-23.

Lets not abide alone, but be spiritually fruitful. We can do this only if we abide in Him.

Have a wonderful day...Let your light shine for Him Love mark Phil. 4:11
