A Place Of Quiet Rest


"You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you" (Isa.26:3).

As we live our lives day by day, being happy is certainly high on our list of priorities. Not that laughing all the time happiness, but the kind that comes with being at peace....Inner peace. Today many are seeking an inner peace of both heart and mind. The Word of God promises us that we can have that peace. It come to that person who's "mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You."

We can have that peace. That peace does not come from human effort or circumstance, and is continual and unbroken. It is a peace with the Lord as its source. Isaiah says, "YOU WILL KEEP." It is available to us in Jesus Christ. The promise is a certain one...."You will keep.

So what is our part to get into the "place of quiet rest?" The verse says that our minds must be steadfast. "Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable,----if anything is excellent or praiseworthy---think about such things" (Phil. 4:8). Filling our minds and hearts with those things of a higher order allows less room for evil thoughts. Our minds can be steadfast because as the scripture says, "we trust in Him."

God enables us to remain peaceful even during stressful situations by being steadfast and placing our trust in Him. God's promise is of perfect peace in the midst of difficulties.

There is a hymn in our songbook at Northfield entitled, "There is a Place of Quiet Rest" Here are some of the words. "There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God, A place where sin cannot molest, near to the heart of God....There is a place of comfort sweet, near to the heart of God, A place where we our Savior meet, near to the heart of God.....There is a place of full release, near to the heart of God, A place where all is joy and peace, near to the heart of God."
