Will We Or Won't We?

"This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says, "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it" (Isa. 30:15).

As the tensions of life can be a draining force on our energy, it is important to find an "inner stability." It can help to carry us through the pressure times of life. We need the quietness of life to find the rest that brings peace.

The children of Israel in this section of our Bibles were about to be attacked by the fierce Assyrians. Instead of turning to their God for help, the turned to Egypt. God's warning to them through the prophet Isaiah was they would only succeed by resting in Him. Only in this way could they find the security and safety they so much wanted.

As each of us face the problems of life, we often try solving them on our own. We sometimes turn then to others who we think might give assistance. Often we fail in these endeavors because self-seeking methods are just not adequete. This is not God's way! Even though our activity may be feverish, and we expend much energy in our efforts, there is no rest. Quiet tension is not rest, it is just compressed anxiety. Only by returning to our God and resting in Him will we attain the quietness in place of fear and confidence instead of anxiety.

The partnership of a good marraige is a wonderful thing. Each does their part, and shares in the work needed, to have a successful partnership. In our partnership with God, He does the work, but uses our lives to accomplish it. Our part is availability and obedience.

God warned the Israelites, "but you would have none of it." We sometimes fail by not involving God, and a valuable lesson is learned if we will learn it. Strength for meeting each day head on is found in the presence of our Lord. The more we learn through His Word and prayer, the more direction we find. In that direction comes accomplishment, empowered by Him. The quietness and confidence that all is well only in Him. I guess its a, "Will we, or won't we?"
