The Faithfulness Of A Friend

"Know therefore that that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments" (Deut. 7:9).

How many people in your life can you actually call, "friend?" Oh, there are those acquaintances that we may call friends. Maybe some people we work with are kind of friends. Even so of our brethren with whom we attend church will rank as friends. But when we really think about it, how many dear, intimate, close, and loyal friends do we actually have. How much do we appreciate those faithful friends on whom we can depend at all times for all things? I guess then that it doesn't surprise us that some of the deepest hurts we feel are when a friend is unfaithful and lets us down.

How reassuring to know that there is one who is always faithful. Faithful always and faithful in everything. "Know therefore that the Lord your God IS God; He is the FAITHFUL God." Because of God's nature, He could not be anything else. "If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself" (2 Tim 2:13). He never changes, goes back on a promise, or fails. He cannot deny His own nature. God, being who He is, cannot stop being what He is. Because He is faithful, He will be faithful in ALL His actions.

When friends fail us and our lives seem to be falling apart, we may think He has failed us too. When trials and tests come, it may seem for a while that even God has forsaken us. Because even our friends fail us and there seem to be so few people that we can trust, our faith in human nature becomes jaded, and we wonder if there is anyone we can really trust.

ENTER THE LORD! There is one who is faithful in all and on whom we can depend. "I will never leave you or forsake you" (Heb. 13:5). Isn't that a wonderful assurance? And what should be our response? Look at Lamentations 3:22&23. "Because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; GREAT IS YOUR FAITHFULNESS."

Now thats a friend! Have a wonderful day...Make a difference. Love mark Phil. 4:11
