The Shine Of Jesus In Our Lives

"They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit----Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people" (Acts 6:5,8).

Through the laying on of the apostles hands, Stephen was able to perform "miraculous signs and wonders." He was a man full of a great faith and the Holy Spirit. When he was brought before the Sanhedrin, in v 15 it says, "and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel."

The Jewish leaders were falsely accusing him, but rather than wrath or hatred, they saw his face as a "face of an angel." As he stood before them in Acts 7, he made a great speech. In the speech, recorded for us is his defense of his (and our) Christian faith. By the end of the speech, they were even more furious with him (they even "gnashed their teeth.") In their fury, "full of the Spirit, he looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. "Look," he said, "I see heaven open, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God"" (Acts 7"54-56).

They took him outside the city and began to stone him to death. His response? "While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Then he fell on his knees and cried, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them"" (v 59-60)

It says in v 58 that the men who did the stoning, laid their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul ( later Paul). What an effect it must have had on his life as he watched the stoning and heard Stephen talk about God and pray. Could he ever forget a man praying for those that were killing him and asking the Lord to forgive them?

What effect do our lives have on others? Do they see the reflection of Jesus in our faces? Do they hear us talk about the Lord? Do they see in our actions and attitude that we have a genuine care? a loving spirit? a forgiving spirit? As Christians, what we say, do, and profess can have a great positive affect on others. They ought to see our "shining faces."

Have a great week.... Let it Shine.....Love mark Phil. 4:11
