Finding Our Purpose

"For me to live is Christ" (Phil. 1:21).

In my 35 years of teaching school, I felt that giving direction, purpose and motivation was a part of my work. Sometimes it takes a special experience in one's life to show what their future will hold. Certainly a purpose for life gives us goals and motivates us to do something worthwhile. If we don't know where we are going, how can we get there? Many today have not really discovered the real purpose for living.

Paul's great "experience" was on the road to Damascus in Acts 9. His life changed and he would now find his true purpose. "For me to live is Christ." He now had purpose, ambition, and a goal. His purpose and ambition was to please his Lord. His goal was to get to know his Lord, Who would now be the object of his devotion and love.

Today we have "Map Quest" to find our way to somewhere we are not familiar. Do you remember taking out the map and trying to find the best way to reach your destination? Our Bibles are our maps and Map Quests of life today. They help us to find our way. Life is a challenging experience when we decide to live with Christ. We can live with Him, and He with us though all of life's experiences. We can live with Christ in our times of joy. We can live with Him in our times of sorrow. We can live with Him through prosperity and adverstiy. Sounds kind of like a marraige, doesn't it.

When we live with Christ, He becomes the center of our lives. He is also the circumference. We can see with His eyes, hear with His ears, speak with His lips, and walk with His feet.

If the Lord is to live in our lives, we may have to make some changes. If He is to take the preeminent role we may have to make some adjustments. Are these changes and adjustments worth it? You bet they are! Why you ask? For then WE can say, "TO LIVE IS CHRIST."
