Being A Prayerful Servant

"Epaphras, who is one of your number, a bondslave of Jesus Christ, sends you his greetings, always laboring earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God" (Col. 4:12)

It is interesting to view some of the people mentioned in out New Testaments in just a brief manner. Epaphras in one of those people. He is only mentioned in the book of Colossians. (1:7 and here) But what is said about him here speaks volumes about the type of Christian he was. He is spoken of as a "bondservant" of Jesus Christ. A servant yields himself fully to the one he serves. He serves his master with utter disregard for his own personal interests. All of his time, all of his strength, belong to his master. Epaphras was a bondservant of Jesus Christ. His plans and desires centered on the serving of his Master.

Another aspect of Epaphras revealed here is that he was a person of prayer. When we realize our helplessness in many situations of life, prayers should begin! James tells us of the power of prayer issued forth by a righteous person in Js. 5:16. Not only did Epaphras pray, but he prayed with a passion. "always laboring earnestly for you in his prayers."

Look at what he prayed for. "that you may stand perfect and fully assured in the will of God." He was praying for the spiritual maturity of those in his congregation. What a wonderful example he sets for each of us in our spiritual service. Epaphras has set the bar high for us. Are we willing to take that challenge? Are our desires, interests, and plans all geared toward the service of our God? Are we praying constantly for the spiritual maturity of those with whom we worship? Epaphras has set the standard for us, lets with all striving try to reach for it. It will make us, and those around us much better

Have a great weekend and a meaningfull worship service on His Day.. Love mark Phil. 4:11
