What We Say And How We Say It

"Surely you too are "one" of them; for even the way you talk gives you away" (Matt.26:73).

I was having a pizza in NY with one of my sons a few months ago. The place was crowded, with the tables very close together. As is usual for me, I made "small talk" with the young couple seated very close to us. She had a European accent. My son has been to Europe twice and fancies hinself as able to detect the country of origin of a person with an accent. After a little while, he said, "Czecoslovakia?"...He was correct.

On the night Jesus was betrayed, a bystander said to Peter, "You are "one" of them....the way you talk gives you away." Isn't that the way it is in the way we live our lives? Our convervation, and even the words that we use can "give us away." Talk about loose lips sinking ships...The way we talk and the words we use are very important

As Christians, we are representatives of Jesus. What we say reflects our connection to our faith. As people listen to us, right or wrong, they form opinions about us. As they hear us speak, content especially, it is a reflection of our lives. It is important for us to guard our words. We should, in our prayers, ask God to help us to guard our conversation so that it would always honor and glorify Him.

Whether we are at work, in school, at a strore, or just around the neighborhood,be sure of this.....People ARE listening! The King James version of the Bible uses the word "betray" instead of "gives you away" in this scripture. This may connote revealing something unknowingly. It is often in those unguarded moments that our talk reveals our inner life.

The book of James has alot to say about our "talk." In 1:19 it tells us to be "quick to hear and slow to speak." Sometimes we just have to slow down before we talk. Lets make sure that what we reveal in our speech DOES REFLECT that we "are one of them." That we are close to Jesus should always be reflected in what we say and what we do.

Have a great day...Make a difference... Love mark Phil. 4:11
