Choices, Choices,Choices

"Is not the whole land before you? Let's part company. If you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left" (Gen. 13:9)

Life is all about making the right choices, isn't it? Think of some of the really important choices that you have made in your life. Some of them, even if made a long time ago, still impact us today. Thirty nine years ago today, Jane and I were married. It is a choice that changed both of our lives forever. (for the good I might add)

When Abraham made his journey to the promised land, he took his nephew Lot with him. They had both been blessed and had accumulated much. Much in those days meant great flocks and herds. Abraham knew that they must split up in order to both survive and prosper. Because Abraham was older and God had made the promise to him, he was entitled to make the first choice of land. Because he was gracious, he allowed Lot to choose, and took what was left.

Lot made his choice based on what he saw. He looked at the well-watered Jordon plain, and seeing that it had the best advantage for his flocks, chose it. It was a choice that he would later rue. As an end result of this choice he lost everything but his daughters. He even lost his wife.

Why was his choice so bad? On the surface it looked like a good one. The problem was that Lot considered only temporal advantages. He thought first about the material, not the spiritual. Umtimately, in choosing based on material possessions, Lot lost....Lost about everything!

On the other hand, Abraham left his decision up to God. By giving the first choice to Lot, he left it in God's hands. It shows that the one who submits, even when right, rather than quarrel, is the one who really wins.

Throughout our lives we will be faced with many decisions. Unless we let the Lord help in our choices, we too, may make the wrong decisions. We may make the choice that leads to material gain but spiritual loss. On the balance scale of life, this is disastrous! It is good in our lives of faith, to waive our choice as we follow His choice for us.

Lets make sure that we confide in the wisest consultant known to man in making our choices. The wise one is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When we leave our choice with Him, we always get the best.

Have a wonderful day....Let your light shine for Him....Love mark Phil. 4:11
