A Place Of Quiet Rest

"Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest" " (Mk. 6:31).

Have you ever been so busy at something that you did not even have a chance to eat? I don't mean just for a little delay but for a long time? On days like these, when our work is finally done, we really want to rest. This is exactly what happened to Jesus disciples that day....They got so busy with people and their "coming and going," that they didn't even have the time to eat. (do you get a little cranky when you don't eat?)

Jesus knew what his friends needed. They needed a little 'down time." He invited them to spend some time alone with Him to get recharged...To get some rest. God knows that we need times of rest also, and provides "rest stops" along our way. "But they that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength" (Isa. 40:31). It is in His presence that we are refreshed. "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him (Psa. 37:7). It is always a "come" not a "go."

Rest is a gift from our God. Jesus said to those who were weary and burdened, "Come to me, I will give you rest." (Matt. 11:28). Our rest comes from a personal relationship with Him. The Hebrew writer in 4:3 says, "Now we who have believed enter that rest."

I don't know about you, but really good rest is the best way to get ourselves back on the right track. Ready to do more or enjoy the fruits of our labor. I have even talked with people who have been bed-ridden for a period of time, and they have told me of the private time they were able to spend with their Lord.

You can even have a rest in prayer. Jesus taught us in Matt.6:6 to, "go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen." Why? "Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

Now that is pretty cool....Getting to pray, rest, be with God, and a reward too!

Have a wonderful day...Let your light shine for Him Love mark Phil. 4:11
