God And You - One On One

"I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in your word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I may meditate on your word" (Psa. 119: 147-148).

Living in a world filled with things that would bring us down, there is much to fill our lives with stress and anxiety. There are many things that would try to pull us away from God and things that are good. With this in mind, making room for private devotions in our lives, will help greatly to walk closer with our Father in heaven, and receive strength of heart and peace of mind in doing His will.

Great men of God were noted for engaging in private devotions. Isaac meditated in the field at evening. (Gen.24:63) David prayed three times a day and meditated on his bed at night. (Psa.55:17; 63:6) It was Daniel's habit to pray three times a day also. (Dan. 6:10) Jesus encouraged private devotions as He sought solitary places in the early morning or late at night. (Mk.1:35; Lk. 6:12) He counseled His disciples (and us) to pray in secret.

We may attend our church's worship services and Bible studies faithfully with God's people as we are encouraged to do, but do we take the time to engage in daily, private devotions? For a few days I would like to talk about the reasons and benefits of "one on one" encounters with our God. How our lives are strengthened by private walks and talks with our Lord.

Let me list for you three reasons why private devotions will help us greatly. I will "expound" on them the next few days.

1. To draw near to God. "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you" (Js.4:8).

2. To receive spiritual nourishment. "Man cannot live on bread alone" Mt.4:4).

3. To find peace and stability. "A peace that passes all understanding" (Ph. 4:7).

I hope your week starts out well. It always starts better by beginning it with Him. Let your light shine all day long....Love mark Phil. 4:11
