More About Private Devotions

"Very early in the morning, while it was still very dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went to a solitary place, where He prayed" (Mk. 1:35).

It is clear in the scriptures that Jesus felt the need from time to time to get off by Himself for some private meditation and prayer. In this verse in was very early in the morning. Maybe you are not a "morning person." That's OK. The important thing is that we find the time in our day. Maybe its late at night for you when all is quiet in your home. The key is to find a quiet time, free from worldly distractions. How about the place? Some people feel closer to God outside. That's what Jesus did in this verse. You may prefer inside. That's what Jesus said in Mt. 6:6. The key again is to find a place free from worldly distractions. Developing good time/place habits is good for some people to help them get into a positive routine.

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful" (Co. 4:2). Approach God each day and give thanks to Him. Thank Him for the blessings of the day. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 Jn 1:9). Confess your sins to Him. Make petition for your needs (Ph. 4:6). Intercede on behalf of others (1 Ti. 2:1-2).

"On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night" (Ps. 63:6). Spend time in meditation. Here are a few things on which you can contemplate:

1.The Lord Himself (His character).

2.His wonderful works (both creative and redemptive).

3.His revealed Word and its part in your life.

4.Things that are wholesome and praiseworthy. (Ph. 4:8).

5.Maybe even have a song of praise in your heart.

I believe that in making room for private devotions in our lives, that we will walk closer to our Father in Heaven, and receive strength of heart and peace of mind in doing His will. "I rise up before the dawning of the morning, And I cry for help; I hope in your Word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I might meditate on Your Word" (Ps. 119: 147-148).

Have a great day...Let you light shine for Him....Love mark Phil 4:11
