Waxing And Waning

"Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life" (Jude 21).

There are certain things in our lives that "wax and wane." This past Wednesday was full moon. The moon is now waning. It will wane until July 3, when there will be new moon. The moon will start to wax again. You can probably think of some aspects of your life in which your attitude toward certain things either waxes or wanes.

Stability in our attitude toward God is one of our greatest spiritual needs. It should not wax or wane as conditions change in our lives. Our devotion to Him should not vary with the winds circumstance. It is good for us to appropriate the hope described by the Hebrew writer in Heb. 6:19. "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure."

It is interesting, and maybe even embarrassing, to consider some of the kinds of things that cause our love for the Lord to diminish. It is almost understandable to understand that it might wane in times of extreme stress, sickness, or discouragement. But isn't it sad when God is forgotten in the good times of comfort and ease? It almost seems like that when we have more to be thankful for, we forget to be thankful at all. Perhaps one of the reasons for this waning is that when our earthly goals are being met, we tend to attribute them to the effectiveness of our own efforts. We may get so wrapped up in our successes, that we think we are getting along without Him. Whatever the case may be, we need to be aware of the danger in the changing of our devotion in good or bad times. Because our day is good or bad, we do not need God any more or less. How constant our need for God is, ought to be reflected by the constancy of our love for Him.

The greatest single thing that can stabilize our attitude toward God is to meditate on the constancy which He loves us. GOD'S FAITHFULNESS TO US DOES NOT WAX OR WANE! He loves us the same on our good days and bad days. Even if for some reason our love for Him wanes, when we turn back to Him, He is there waiting for us with a love no less than it was before. Lets us with diligence, try to love Him with the same love each day. After all, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever" (Heb. 13:8).

Have a great beginning to your week...Let your light shine for Him...Love mark Phil. 4:11
