Giving It Up To Get God

"And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it, not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe" (1 Thess. 2:13).

These people in Thessalonica to whom Paul preached, were not gullible people. There is no denying that they were favorably disposed toward the possibility that what they heard might be the truth. When the evidence showed that the message was true, they were convicted to it and did not hesitate to respond to it with obedience.""When you received the Word of God, which you heard from us.......you accepted it not as the word of men but as the Word of God."

Being truly open to God means not only that we are willing to accept the truth about Him, but that we are eager to welcome Him into our hearts and lives as well. What may make some less receptive to His Word is the fact that we are told by Paul that we are to "put off the old life and put on the new." (Eph.4:22-24). We can't have the proverbial "cake and eat it too." We cannot have God without separating ourselves from what kept us from Him in the first place. It is His requirement that we let go of our sinful, self-centered and willful selves and make a commitment to Him for the rest of our lives.

In many cases, decisions about true repentance and obedience are difficult ones to make. To some they are painfully hard. There is no other cure though, for the ailment that we have. If, for whatever reason, turning away from sins is not something we're willing to do, it is not likely that God will find a welcome reception in our hearts.

On the other hand, if we've caught just a glimpse of the joy that fellowship with the Lord will bring us, then no price is too big to pay to learn of that love. Balking at the requirement of repentance won't even be an issue. Our hearts and minds will be open to Him. We will be ready to receive what He has for us. Like the pearl of great price, we will sell all we have to own it,

Have a wonderful day...Make a difference...Love mark Phil. 4:11
