What We Get From The Son

"The mission undertaken by the Son, was not to show Himself as having all power in heaven and earth, but to reveal His Father, to show to all men such as he is, that men might know Him, and knowing Him, trust Him. It were a small boon indeed that God should forgive men, and not forgive Himself. It would be but to give them back themselves, and less than God just as He is will not to comfort men for the essential sorrow of their existence. Only God can turn that sorrow into essential joy: Jesus came to give them God, who is eternal life. (George Mac Donald)

"All things have been committed to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the father except the Son and those to whom the Son choose to reveal him" (Matt. 11;27).

So why indeed did God send His Son to us? As God Himself, Jesus is able to reveal God to us in a manner that surpasses all other means. Your remember in Hebrews 1:1-3 that before Jesus, God had revealed Himself to us in many ways. John writes, "No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made Him known (1:18).

God didn't reveal Himself to us for merely intellectual purposes, that we may have a better understanding of Him. What needs to be fixed in our minds is His trustworthiness. Adam and Eve sinned only when the tempter broke their confidence in God. It was then that they were willing to set aside His will. If the damage that sin can do to us is to be repaired, we also must learn to trust God again. It is in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that we see that God can be trusted. "He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all---how will not He also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? (Rom. 8:32).

Lets not be naive about it however. God did not show His trustworthiness to us just so that we will sleep better at night. That God is dependable and trustworthy is a given. What it should lead us to is obedience. In His Son, God is restoring to us what was once lost. He invites us to follow, even though the way may be dangerous and uncharted. Follow Him to a place where we can know Him, enjoy Him, and eat from the tree of life.

Have a great day....Let your light shine for Him.... Love mark Phil. 4:11
