Love With Direction

"Come near to God, and he will come near to you" (James 4:8).

In this passage, James, a little later mentions to the "doubleminded," to "purify their hearts." I believe that in order to live more Godly lives, that we must develop a more single-minded love for God. It is necessary to concentrate our attention and our affections more fully on God Himself. Disciplining ourselves outwardly may not be enough, and may be difficult, if we don't discipline our love. What it seems like we need to do, is eliminate the distractions that compete for our full devotion to God. To resolve to give Him nothing less than the best we have....Our whole hearts.

One of the lessons of the Sermon on the Mount is for us to direct our complete selves, (heart, mind, and bodies) on Jesus Christ. To be sanctified all of us must be concentrated on Jesus. That means all the strength of our body, soul, and spirit is for His purpose alone. We need to try to learn to look at things from God's perspective, and only his. If we can do these things, we can then be fully and consistently dedicated to Him.

Jesus said in John 7:24, "Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgement." This may the linchpin to it all.....Both godly character and godly conduct. To be able to look past the worldly appearance of things and to see them "rightly."....God's way. This gets our "mental maps" (GPSs?) working correctly so that we can get where we want to go.

We need to make God more than just one more item on our crowded plate. He must be the central focus of our love....Our rightly directed love. In our decision making, He must be more than just another option. As we try to look at things through God's eyes instead of ours it should make God's view the decisive one. Behind all of our actions should be the desire to bring glory to Him...

Have a great start to your week...Let your light shine for Him....Love mark Phil. 4:11
