Pursuing With Passion

"How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God" (Psa. 84:1-2).

We all have some things that we are passionate don't we. Maybe its a hobby. With what passion do we pursue it? When Jane had her yard sale last week, you could tell the "professionals." They had fanny packs abound their waists, perused through with purpose, and either bought or left for the next sale. They had a quiet passion for what they were doing.

God should not only be our highest priority but also our most fervent passion. Our love and desire for Him should, like in the parable of the pearl of great price, cause us to seek Him at all costs. Our greatest insult to our God is to treat Him like just one of our casual or peripheral interests....Like a hobby...God deserves more! I believe that our relationship with our God should be our ultimate concern. In that we do not pursue all things with equal passion, how should we pursue that which is of the greatest interest in our lives?

The Psalmist here in chapter 84:1&2, has the right idea. He first comments on the loveliness of dwelling with his Lord God Almighty, and then says, "My soul yearns, even faints for the courts of the Lord." His whole being wants this closeness to his Lord. "my heart and flesh cry out for the living God." Now THATS PASSION!!

So how and why do we pursue with this great passion? The why is obvious. God is God. The how is a little more difficult. An athlete does not get into great physical condition by thinking about it and wishing he were more fit. By the same token, we do not get into better "spiritual condition" by just having some vague spiritual yearnings within us. Jesus said it this way. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." (Matt. 5:6). Now that's passion! We must hunger and thirst for Him with a determination and a passion. With a will that won't be denied. All that a really hungry person can think of is food. All that a really thirsty person can think of is a drink. To a Christian, Jesus is more than a vital interest. He should be the reigning passion of our lives.

Have a great Wednesday...Let your light shine for Him....Love mark Phil. 4:11
