Being People Of Purpose

"But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank" (Dan. 1:8).

As a young boy in a strange land, Daniel was immediately faced with a dilemma. He was challenged to violate God's law by eating the King's food. Despite his youth and the obvious pressures to conform, Daniel "purposed in his heart" to uphold the law of God, no matter what the cost. Because of this willingness to put God first, God granted Daniel favor in the sight of others (Dan. 1:9). God blessed Joseph in this same way for his integrity.

As Christians, we also need to be people of purpose. No one respects a "wishy-washy person....Someone with no direction in their lives. A strong sense of purpose often breeds respect and admiration in others. It is another great way to be a good influence on others. When others see that we have purposed to respect our God in all ways, they will want that relationship too.

Jesus makes it clear in Matt. 6:33, what the purpose of a Christian should be. "But seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you." In our lives we need to seek the will of God and fulfill it in our lives, no matter what the circumstances. As Jesus promised, this will guarantee God's favor toward us and in turn likely gain us favor in the eyes of those around us.

Will we dare to be like Daniel and Joseph by being people of purpose? We are never too young to have this sense of purpose and never too old to develop it. It is never too early or too late to "seek first His kingdom and His righteousness." Lets be paragons of purpose. Lets be sure there is purpose in our service to others. Lets be clear that there is purpose in our service to God. Lets have purpose in our prayer lives. Lets be purposeful in our giving. Lets have purpose in our praise and worship.

Have a great 4th...Make a difference....Love mark Phil. 4:11
