Just Like He Says

"So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me"(Acts 27:25).

For the past few months I have been watching a TV show called "The Deadliest Catch." Have any of you seen it? It is about Alaskan King Crab fishing on the Bering Sea. When the winds blow on the Bering, It can make even the largest ship seem like a ping pong ball. There's is nothing quite as scary as being on the water in a fierce storm.

In this section of Acts, Paul, as a prisoner, is sailing toward Rome. They thought all was well in vs 13, "when a gentle wind began to blow." That gentle wind turned into a "northeaster." After three days the crew began to throw cargo overboard and then the ship's tackle to lighten the ship. The storm raged on so fiercely for several days that the sun and stars had not appeared. They gave up hope of being saved. In the midst of all this, Paul stood before them and said, "I exhort you to be of good cheer, none of you will be lost, only the ship will be destroyed." (v 22)

"Be of good cheer?" Are you pulling my leg? In all of this, be of good cheer? The truth is that Paul was privy to information that none of them had. He also knew "someone" they did not know. Paul had access to the "Great Encourager," the One who can keep up our spirits in the midst of a storm.

Paul was able to give a reason for his optimism. His powerful faith caused him to say, "that it will happen just as He told me." Paul's belief was not in something but in someone! His communication with God was so close, that God could reveal His will to him. God promised that their lives would be spared and he believed it. You know, its easy to believe God when all is going smoothly, but Paul could believe Him in the fiercest of storms. The great faith that Paul had was based on "that it will happen just as He told me."

The storms that may rage around us are not of ocean but of heart. We can meet our storms with the same confidence that Paul did. When we keep our lines of communication with Him open, He will share His Words of promise to us in our storm. If we stay close enough we can say with the same assurance what Paul said. "For I have faith in God, that it will happen just as He told me."

Have a wonderful Friday.....Make a difference....Love mark Phil. 4:11
