The Taste Of The Good Life

"Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled" (Matt. 5:6).

There are so many people around us that just are not happy with their lives. In the Bible, the words blessed and happy are often interchanged. On a physical level, we have become used to finding something to eat or drink when we are hungry or thirsty. On a spiritual level Jesus said that the happy person is the one who seeks after righteousness..."hunger and thirst for righteousness."

It seems that there are many around us that are hungering and thirsting for something more than they have. If this were not so, there would be a lot more happy people about us. In front of our building at Northfield, we have a sign. The worship times are on the sign, but each week we try to put a short "catchy" message on it. On one side of the sign this week it says, "The important things in life are not things." If the attaining of "things" was so meaningful, why aren't those around us happier?

Our verse today says that our true hunger and thirst CAN BE satisfied. It can be satisfied with the active pursuit of righteousness. Paul says about Christ, "He is our righteousness, holiness, and redemption" (1 Cor.1:30) Righteousness is in simple terms, being right with God. People may accumulate the "things" in their lives that they pursue...... wealth, possessions, homes, families, money, fame, or talent...None of these satisfy our real hunger and thirst. In 63:1, the Psalmist writes, "O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water."

The story of Paul's life is wrapped up in Phil. 3;8, where he said that all that he ever"had" was rubbish compared to knowing Jesus Christ his Lord. It is no wonder a little later in 4:11, he could say what he said! Like Paul. our only true happiness, our only real satisfaction, is in Jesus. "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty" (John 6:35).

David said, "Taste and see that the Lord is good." (Ps.34:8)......Go ahead and taste...Get a taste of the good life

Have a wonderful day....Make a difference....Love mark Phil. 4:11
