God.....Mindful Of Us

"The Lord upholds all those who fall, and lifts up all who are bowed down" (Ps. 45:14).

David, who wrote many of the Psalms, has a unique and interesting view of his God. He is appreciative of His creative power. He is awed by His handiwork. David talked with God often. The great thing is that is was now always just for help, but often just is praise. This Psalm is a one of praise.

Often, David was the recipient of God's loving and protecting care. In this Psalm he extols God's greatness.(not a bad idea for us to do from time to time) David literally is gushing in praise to God. "I will extol you, my God the King; I will praise your name forever and ever" (v 1)...."Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom" (v 3).

This God, who David praises so lavishly for His greatness is also mindful of you and me. Is that an encouragement or what! In God's greatness and goodness, He has a personal concern for you and me. "The Lord upholds all who fall, and lifts up all who are bowed." The Lord ACTUALLY feels our pain. When the burdens of life seem to be at their heaviest, He is ready to "uphold us and lift us up." He is just a prayer away, waiting to comfort if we need comforting, and strengthen if we need strengthening.

"You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing" (v15). Do you remember playing the "hide something in your hand game" with one of your children? (or if you are younger, having it played with you.) You remember how it goes. You hide a treat in one of your hands and put them behind your back and ask the one anticipating a treat to choose which hand. Since you only have two hands, the treat is quickly discovered. From God's hand come the "treats" of life.

As David closes this Psalm he writes these words. "My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.Let every creature praise His holy name for ever and ever" (v21). What a great comfort to know, that the magnificent God of David's Psalms is mindful of you and me......Just a prayer away..
