Starting The Day

"Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul" (Ps. 143:8)

I am sure you have heard the old married people joke. It goes like this. "Do you wake up grumpy in the morning?"

"No, I let (her, him) sleep." HOW DO you wake up in the morning? Is It in a positive way? DO you wake up grumpy? Does everything seem to be wrong or do you get up out of bed, ready for a new day. I know that some people will tell you, "I'm just not a 'morning person.'"

Whether you are a morning person or not, in this verse, the Psalmist gives a pretty good formula for the start of each day. "Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love." The King James says, "Cause me to hear thy loving kindness." In either usage the message is the same. Start your day thinking about God and His goodness to us. Just take a few minutes, maybe in prayer, contemplating His loving kindness toward you.

You know how it is said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Well I'm not absolutely convinced of that, but this I know. It will be a completely different day if we begin it with the Lord on our hearts and minds. Even if the day before us promises to be a difficult one, our spirits can be lifted by the simple knowledge that the Lord is with us. The Lamentations writer says this about the compassions of the Lord. "They never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." (3:22&23).

God is ready to give us guidance at the beginning of each day. "Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul." Isn't reassuring to know that we do not start each day on our own! How encouraging it is to know that He will be by our side, even if the day proves to be a difficult one. How wonderful to contemplate that the day doesn't just depend on us---but on Him. Lets start each day with a, "for to You I lift up my soul," on our lips and in our hearts.

Have a great Friday....Make a difference...Love mark Phil. 4:11
