Guests In Our Home

"So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith" (Eph. 3:17)

When someone you barely know is in your home, how much "freedom" do we give them? How about a close friend? How about family? If that person we know only casually needs to go the bathroom, they will probably ask permission and direction. Our good friends will explain their need and go. Our family member will simply disappear.

One definition of dwell is, "to make one's home; live." When Christ comes into our lives, He expects family privileges. He wants access to every corner of our home. Why? Paul writes in Gal. 2:20, "I have been crucified with Christ and no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." Jesus has "purchased" us. For this reason we should allow Him His rightful place in our lives. "Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

In essence what this says is that as Jesus' bought possession, He has the right to use our lives the way He wants to. He has the right to our time, money, possessions, talents, family, or home. He has a right to it all. Its not like He wants to use any or all of these things for selfish reasons, but for the good of mankind.

Jesus should never be considered a guest in our homes. He should live there! Some questions that we might ask ourselves are: Is Jesus really at home in our lives, or just a guest? Does He have unlimited access to every part of our home, or are there restrictions? Just some thoughts to ponder.

Have a wonderful weekend. I hope your worship on His day is glorifying to the Lord and uplifting to you. "I rejoiced with those who said to me, let us go to the house of the Lord" (Ps 122:1). Love mark Phil. 4:11
