Using OUr Miracle Ears

"So Eli told Samuel, 'Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, 'Speak Lord, for your servant is listening" " (1 Sam. 3:9).

My mom in her later years was convinced that she heard just as well as she always did. In reality, she could not hear the thunder if she was in the middle of the storm. My sister and I bought her a really expensive hearing aid, which after a short time, she determined that she didn't need, and wouldn't wear. They only work if you wear them....

We all have a kind of "spiritual hearing aid" that we must have on all the time to listen for God. In today's reading, God is actually calling young Samuel. Not having his hearing aid properly tuned in, Samuel thinks that it is Eli calling to him. Finally, Eli realized that God was talking to Samuel and told him to say, "Speak Lord, for your servant is listening." This is exactly what Samuel said when the Lord spoke again.

As the prophet that Samuel would become, he would many times listen for God.

The Hebrew writer as he begins his letter writes this; "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son, who He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe (1&2). Jesus' Words are recorded for us in our Bibles. Are we tuned into them? Are our ears sometimes so filled with things of the world, that we cannot hear His voice. Maybe our hearing devices are filled with the static of "things." Being taken up with the things of the world, may hinder us from hearing Him. Maybe it is because we are talking so much, instead of listening.

In our quiet times with Him, God speaks to us in the Word and in prayer. We just have to be willing to listen and hear. Through every circumstance of life, we must be like young Samuel. We must be willing enough, and humble enough to simply say, "Speak Lord, for your servant is listening." Lets all make sure that we get close enough to our Lord that we can hear Him. He speaks loud enough for all willing souls to hear.

Have a wonderful weekend and a great worship experience on His Day. May you be uplifted and the Lord be praised. Let you light shine for Him...Love mark Phil. 4:11
