A Place for God's Word

"The law of the Lord is Perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple" (Ps.19:7)

One of the things I like about clamming is being out in nature. I love to be out on the water in God's creation, observing the changing of the tides, and the teeming plant and animal life. I can't help but turn my thoughts to God who created it all. As we read the nineteenth Psalm, we find in the first six verses an extolling of the beauty of the world around us. I love verse one. "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands." As we observe the beauties about us, I can't help to realize that they are pointing to the work of another.

It "seems" like David changes his boat in mid-stream when we get to verse seven. He moves from nature, to the Word of God. Is there some kind of contradiction here? No, not all...In the following verses, The God who is the creator of all things, is revealed to us in His Word. I think that's pretty cool...Lets take a look at how the Psalmist views the Word in the next few verses, and see why he and we ought to hold them in such high esteem.

In verse seven it says that the Word is "perfect." That it is trustworthy and can "revive our souls, making wise the simple." (he's talking about me here....I need all the wisdom I can get!)
Verse eight tells us that the Word is "right, giving joy to the heart." (I need a lot of that joy too) The Word is "radiant" To me that means that it will serve as a "light unto our way."

Verse nine tells us that the Word "is sure and altogether righteous." That means that it is capable of guiding us through the paths of life with its instruction. It reveals to us the holiness of our God and His true justice. It shows that He is right all of the time.

Finally, verse eleven sums it up. "in keeping them there is great reward." I believe that reward is two-fold. The rewards we derive from it as we live our lives here on earth, and the rewards of heaven if we have obeyed.

What a great Psalm to meditate on today...Have a wonderful day...Make a difference...Love mark Phil. 4:11
