The Counting Of Blessings

"Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; Your right hand upholds me" (Ps.63:7 & 8).

I thought that I would stay in this Psalm for one more morning. As David in the previous verse meditated on the Lord "through the watches of the night", the next few verses give reasons why He is worthy of meditation. In his relationship with God, David saw and realized all that he had to be thankful for. "Because you are my help", is a statement of God's presence. We along with David have experienced God's help. Not one of our needs is too big for Him, as we have the surety of Psalm 46:1. God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble".

I love the feeling of protection symbolized by being in the "shadow of your wings". The same type of language is used in Psalm 91:4. "He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find protection". As He was in David's time as in ours, he is our protection in dangerous times. Because of this feeling of safety and security, David was able to sing. Remember, at this time, David was in the desert. We may feel at times that we are in a desert too. Because of the presence of our Lord, a song of praise can be on our lips. It is great to praise when we feel good, it is greater when things aren't going so well.

"My soul clings to you". When we give our Lord the credit for our well-being, safety and security, we draw closer to Him. As we allow His word to light the path of our lives, we can realize that he is ALWAYS there for us. Some may say to us, "I've got your back"....God really does!

Finally, "your right hand upholds me". Our real strength ties in with the strength of the Lord. Our God tells us not to fear. Paul writes, "be anxious in nothing".We have the strength of God to catch us when we slip and keep us from falling.

As you go through your day, think and contemplate God's blessings. The same blessings that David felt here in this Psalm, while in the desert? We can also count those same blessings...

Have a great day....Make a difference...love mark Phil. 4:11
