Real Fishing...

"When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nest began to break" (Luke 5:6).

Peter, James, and John had been fishing all night without any success. "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything" (v 5). In response to Jesus' "Put out into the deep water and let down the nets for a catch", they tried one more time. The results were overwhelming. So many fish that the nets began to break. So many fish that they called their partners in another boat to help them. So many fish that BOTH boats almost sank.

Peter knew that he had participated in a miracle and when he reached the shore, "he fell at Jesus' knees."....he said, "Go away from me Lord; for I am a sinful man." The results were so fantastic that we read in verse 11, "So they pulled their boats on shore, left everything and followed Him."

I did leave out one important verse.."Then Jesus said to Simon, 'Don't be afraid; from now on you will be catching men." (v10) The King James Version says the "you will be fishers of men." I think that this idea of fishing for men ties in very closely to what is generally called The Great Commission. In Matt 28:18 &19. Just before ascending into heaven Jesus said, "all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go into the world and make disciples of all nations."

That admonition has been given to us all. I know, all of us are not evangelists, so we can use other means. By supporting the evangelistic outreach of your church, you too become a part. But even more important is the example you set for others. Being a Christian for sure is not relegated to meeting times of the church. It is a 24 hour a day occupation. We must be Christian examples wherever we do, whatever we do. We must guard the things we say, even if angered. We need to not respond to evil in kind. We must "love even our enemies."

How do we become "fishers of men?" Simply by following the lead that Jesus has provided for us. By not ever being ashamed of who and what we are...When kind deeds are done, even when maybe not deserved, people take notice. There are so many out there who are wanting to be like that, they just need an example. Lets cast our nets into the deeper water for a catch...

Have a wonderful weekend...Mine is starting out great....MAKE A DIFFERENCE.. Love mark Phil. 4:11
