The Value Of Timelessness

"A man planted a vineyard, rented it to some farmers and went away for a long time" (Luke 20:9).

Timeless stories talk to each generation with a clarity and understanding. We will more than likely read the classics for many years to come. We will read and attend the plays of Shakespeare. Ernest Hemingway's works will continue to stay in style. The writing of Edgar Allan Poe will continue to haunt us and the poetry of Robert Frost will be treasured for years to come.....Timeless.... It is what makes something a classic. It is something that will speak for generation to generation with the same clearness and truth.

Today's verse is the beginning of the Parable of the Tenants. You are probably familiar with it. The farmer plants a vineyard and goes away for a long time, renting it to some farmers. At harvest time he sends one of his servants to the tenants so that they would give him some of the fruits of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him up and did not give him any of the fruit for the owner. This was repeated 2 more times with the same result. The owner then decided to send his son. Surely they would respect the son of the owner. But the tenants got together saying, "this is the heir...Lets kill him and the inheritance will be ours. So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him" (v14&15).

This parable is timeless. Sending the prophets that God sent did not work, so God decided to send His Son. They killed His Son! The religious leaders of the day understood that Jesus was talking about them, just as we can see it in the story. Why? Because it is timeless. It has the same lesson for us today that it had for the religious leaders of that day. To be in the with God, we must accept the Son.

From the onset of this parable (v9), its intention is very clear. At the conclusion of the story ten verses later, we read that He told this story against the teachers of the law and the chief priests. Jesus held nothing back! He knew it! The teachers knew it! Today we know it! Why? Because the teachings of Jesus are timeless.

As we read more of Jesus' teachings we find this to be true. As we absorb this wonderful of wisdom from the Son of God, we know more of how to live our lives. It is timeless...

Have a wonderful day....Let your light shine for Him....Love mark Phil. 4:11
