Trust And Dependence 101

"Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence is of God" (2 Cor. 3:5).

I learned a long time ago that I have many limitations. It is a kind of standing joke with those that know me that I am not very good with tools. It is hard to explain, but I just don't "see" things the way mechanical people do. Pretentious about these things I am not! I am not too prideful to ask for help of the more accomplished in these areas.

Moses had made himself the "self-proclaimed" savior and deliverer of his people. What he found was failure. He simply did not have the competence level to do the job on his own. Moses was limited....God was not! Now Moses had received the best of educations as a member of the Egyptian elite. He was actually being groomed for one of the top positions. What he failed to realize at this time was that with all this training, education, and even natural ability, he was not yet qualified for the position he was about to assume. He was not ready to do God's work. Simply put, he was too strong in his own strength and not strong enough in Gods.

The desert was a great place for Moses to learn of his shortcomings. It was a great place to come to the knowledge that his own will was not strong enough. He had to humble himself in God's "prep school." To use a favorite term of mine, "God's College of Knowledge." What Moses came to learn was that to do the will of God, one must do it in God's way. He took courses in Dependence and Trust 101. He would need this knowledge to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt.

Sometime we must also come to our own desert. In this desert we too must learn of the shortcomings of our own self-sufficiency. In our desert we need to come to grips with how important it is to do God's will in God's way. God wants to use our abilities or even our inabilities, but is really more interested in our availability.

To do God's work we must make a big trade. Our self-sufficiency for His all-sufficiency. God can only entrust His power into those who realize that their power just won't cut it!. He will make us the person we can be, and do the work He wants us to do.

Have a wonderful weekend and a meaningful worship experience on His day....Love mark Phil. 4:11
