Are We Doomed To Sin?

"But the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body" (1 Cor. 6:13).

Those of us old enough to remember the Flip Wilson show on TV, recall a signature "line" in one of his skits. He played a woman named Geraldine, and when she did something wrong, he said, "the devil made me do it." Is Satan really so powerful out there, that we are doomed to a life of sin? Are we just to resign ourselves to this weakness? Are we by nature so bad and weak that we just can't help but sinning?

Today's verse seems to indicate otherwise. God did not make man for sin. The comparison made by Paul here is in the first part of the verse. "Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both of them." This is God's natural arrangement. He makes the case that food is there because of the stomach and the stomach is there because there is food. The urge to eat, is usually there unless something is wrong with us.

Likewise, God made man not for immorality, but for a place in which He could dwell. He did not make sin "natural" to us, but rather when man sins, he is actually going against the make-up of his very nature. Most birds were made to fly as their mode of movement... Man was not. Most fish were designed to live a breath in the water...Man was not. As we were not designed to fly or live in the water, so we were not designed, by our moral and spiritual make-up to sin.

Truth be told, we function best when we avoid sin. Our lives work at the optimum when, rather than sin, we build the very qualities of God in our lives. Sin is certainly a contrary and destructive force to all aspects of our live. It is destructive to the emotional parts of our life. Also to the physical, social, intellectual, and especially the spiritual part.

"Food for the stomach and the stomach for food." When the stomach doesn't receive the food so that it can help prepare it for the functioning of the body, the body suffers. We cannot sin without negative effects. We function BEST, and our world functions best, when the nature of God is built into the very fiber of our being. We are better and our world is better. God designed us for bigger and better things..

Have a wonderful day....Make a difference...Love mark Phil. 4:11
