Hello God

"To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact both their minds and consciences are corrupted" (Titus 1:15).

Did any of you watch the first game of the World Series last night? As we look at these games we realize how good these players are. Routinely, the batters look at pitches moving at a speed of 95 or more mph. Their skill level is just awesome. Did you ever wonder how they "got this good?" Let me assure you, they don't just walk out on the field for each game and magically do their thing. Hours and hours of practice have been spent to acquire and hone their skills.

To often some families come to church each Sunday morning, bright and shiny, and "say hello" to God. They walk out and say, "goodbye God, see you next week." For Christian parents to expect their children to become, good and moral young people, God cannot not be left at the door of the church building each Sunday morning. In today's world their is so much out there competing for our attention. If God does not play a major role in the totality of our lives, He will be squeezed out and left at the door.

Just as a baseball player must spend a good part of his life practicing to get better, so does the Christian. The world with is like this; "cravings of sinful men, the lust of the eyes, and the boasting of what he has and does---comes not from the Father but from the world" (1John 1:16). We cannot turn in any direction without coming in contact with the influences of the world. How do we stay pure in this world? How do we help our children to seek the best and not the world? Our goal should be to keep as much God in us as we can, and as much of the world out as we can.

How you ask? Look at the ballplayer.....Its practice, practice, and more practice. He has the ball, the bat, and the glove in his hands EVERYDAY. We must have the Word of God, prayer, and meditation in our lives EVERY DAY.. Just as our children will never understand how important God is if He is only at the church building, neither will any of us unless we allow Him to be a part of our everyday experiences...An integral part of our environment... The more filled we are with our Lord, the less room there is for the world.
