Where Is Your God?

"Am I only a God nearby, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord, Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord" (Jer. 23:23).

Did any of you have a "secret place" when you were a child? A place you thought hidden from all? A place where it was just you and nobody else? Maybe it was just pulling the covers over our heads and using our imaginations. In our child fantasies these thoughts were plausible. In reality, we were not even hiding from humans.

Our attitude about where God is can have an effect on remembering that he is constantly about us. When we ask a small child where God is, the probable response is, "in heaven." You know, "Our Father who art in heaven". It is actually a good response and true. Heaven should not only be thought of as a place, but as a dimension.....A non-physical realm that can overlap out physical dimension without our even being aware of it. As a spirit being (John 4:24, Phil.3:21, 1 John 3:2), God is not limited to time and space as we are. Here's Solomon's description. "But will God dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heavens cannot contain You" (1 Kings 8:27).

Our dimension which seems so immense and extensive to us, is nothing in size compared to God's dimension. Our dimension cannot contain God, and nothing in our relatively small dimension, can escape the knowledge of God. Solomon again... "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good (Prov. 15:3).

God resides in a realm unalike ours it is a non-material, spiritual realm. This being true, He has the power to permeate all aspects of the universe. He can observe all that is going on in our physical world while still being in heaven. The things that restrict humans like darkness, walls, water, or any other obstacle, just don't affect God.

So as we answer the question, "Where is our God", we can be childlike and say He is in heaven, and adult like and say He is all about us. Either and both ways we are right. He's in heaven and also in the bleachers watching our game. Are we playing well together?
