Sharing Our Affection With God

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment" (Matt.22:37&38).

Imagine this scenario if you would.(if you're fortunate, you've experienced it)..A small child is playing with some toys by himself in his room. His mother enters and says, "come with me." Obediently he came to his mother and hugged her. She said, "Please pick up your toys and then we can go to the park and play on the swings." The child quickly picked up the toys, grabbed on to his mom's hand, and left for the park with her.

The child's mom got to experience three wonderful things in this story. Her child listened to her, he did what she asked him to do, and most importantly, he shared his affection with her. Which of these three things would you have enjoyed most. I think it was the hug...The shared affection was the best thing.

Not only is God in the bleachers watching and observing all of our activities, but He is there desiring our love and fellowship....He wants our affection. He wants us to listen to Him and obey Him, because this is what brings us into fellowship with Him. Not listening and disobeying will destroy the fellowship. Like the child's mother however, God wants us to listen and obey, but even more He wants our love and fellowship. He wants us to share a warm affection.

I think that this is what the Bible is all about. The more we read our Bibles especially the New Testament that includes Jesus, the more moments we share with Him. I think He wants us to spend these moments with Him because of the affection we have in our hearts for Him. If we are like the psalmist in Psalm one, our "delight will be in the law of the Lord, and on this law we will meditate day and night." The more we get to know the Lord through His Word and meditating on it, the more we will love Him and be in fellowship with Him. James tells us "draw near to our God and He will draw near to you"(4:8). God as the God of spirits gave us our spirit. He formed this spirit in us and wants us to share with Him our spirit which He gave us.

Jesus spent His entire ministry trying to bring people closer to Him. "Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matt11:28). Jesus makes this promise to all who listen and obey. "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him" (John 14:23). Those who listen and are obedient, to God Word will desire to open their lives to Him so that He can dwell in them. God wants this so that we can share a fellowship....Share an affection.

Have a great day and week...Let your light shine for Him....Love mark Phil. 4:11
